Comment Before Faving, Plz. by Nocturia Comment Before Faving, Plz. by Nocturia
Made in a sort of indirect response to a stamp I've seen here on dA, claiming rather rudely that, "I'll fave without commenting, deal with it." A lot of people favorite without commenting, and I, for one, am against that. This is why, unless you upload like more than twenty pieces in mass and I would get to sound very repetitive, I either comment and fave, or don't comment and fave at all. o.o; But, however, realize what the stamp says. "So am asking you to comment before faving." Not demanding, asking. I've had people get on my case before just because I stated in the Artist's Comments that I would very much like the person planning to 'fave and run' the piece to drop a comment. It's like it's a sin to do that or something.

The meaning of this stamp? You're entitled to your own opinion, but if the artist asks in the deviation that you drop a simple ten second comment before faving, please, do it. Not many artists ask that, so it doesn't really take that much out of your day. :\ It's just common courtesy to do that, and, which, by the looks of a lot of the stamps concerning 'fave and run's, there's not a lot of that there.

Please, respect the artist, and give the feedback they so very well deserve.

Best stamp ever. Not in graphics, but in the meaning.
I dislike fav+runs and inactive watchers.
Heck, I feel that a little one-word comment like "awesome" means so much more to me than a fav.
The drag&drop option is a huge reason to the downfall of comments. That's why I keep passing comments around to show that there's still hope to constructive comments, critique and so on.
Favs are overrated. But I'll still appreciate it if the person wants to collect.

I always ask for comments. Most people do leave comments, but when they do a hit and run, it grates on my nerves.

Thank you so much for this stamp. I shall put it at the top of my stamp thing.

OMG you're so right! God, why can't some people use a simple 2 minutes, listen to me all of you 2 simple minutes to leave a decent comment. I hate waking up every morning & finding that my latest deviation got 30+ faves & not one person bothered to comment. I have no reason to be grateful for that (& if someone out there is gonna come by saying "Would you rather have no faves at all?" yes, I would). I even put on my deviation comment :iconcommentsplz: & even that didn't help! Faving & running for the hell of it is pretty much a sin. I love your stamp.

Gosh, this is exactly the stamp I've been looking for. I always get so irritated when I get online and find out I have 25+ messages. ....Only to click them and find out that so-and-so has faved my entire gallery (and scraps) without leaving a single comment. Then, they always get very sarcastic and snappy when I ask for a comment -____- Sometimes I wish you could disable "collecting" because that's what everyone seems to do when favoriting every piece in your gallery.....

But, awesome stamp~

I used to not mind it when someone faved a piece of my work before commenting, but now it's just annoying. I clearly state in the artists comments to COMMENT, so how hard can it be? Comments make me feel all warm and fuzzy, whereas faves just make me think, 'another fave, whatever'. I'm gonna use this on my shoutboard and see if it works.

I don't even favorite stuff anymore, but when I did it was usually because I REALLY liked it for some reason. I don't wanna be arrogant, but I'm very hard to impress so if I liked something enough to add it then it was probably pretty good. I always comment of course. XD

I try to comment but i just get way to many Deviations to look at and must of us have real life stuff to do and are not in forth of the computer a lot. So i have to fav stuff.

Why i don't comment a lot is become poeple don't reply to me.

I, personally, fave and run when I can clearly see that the artist or author doesn't respond to comments. If I'm going to take a few minutes out of my day to cemment, they'd bloody well better take a few minutes to reply. Otherwise, I fave and run, of just don't bloody fave.

I know what you mean with that. If the artist isn't going to bother replying to the comment, why leave one? But if it's that way, I still won't even fave. In my opinion, if someone takes all the praise and gives nothing back, they don't deserve it. That's just my opinion.

People don't have to comment at the end of the day. D: No amount of whining is not gonna change that. ^^;

A fav means they like it. Maybe loads of people have already said how good the pic is and doesn't feel the need to say it again. (If that makes sense) Or maybe they're not very good at criting a piece of work. Or maybe people don't have time.

Nothing urks me for than people saying 'Leave a comment and respect the artist', because basically..they don't have to. o.o' And that's that. =o

(Sorry I don't mean to sound harsh, don't wanna fall out here.)

They don't have to. It's just common courtesy that if someone asks for a comment, critique or not, in the deviation, that someone comment. Usually because they're very proud of the piece, and yet no one comments. (I've been on the receiving end of that. Taking hours upon hours on a piece of artwork only to have people not comment on it.) It just seems very impolite that people disregard someone who asks politely for something. Not whining, not forcing. But asking politely. That's my view on it. It's a morality thing.

Brilliant. I hate using stamps that seem like they're demanding comments.

I used to hate it when people faved without commenting, bu I learned to take the fave as a compliment. That said, I still like it more when the person comments and explains WHY they like it. It's much more fulfilling. :3

Yeah. I'm not gonna DEMAND comments, but I really don't see the big deal if someone politely asks to please, drop a comment on such and such a piece, and yet people don't do it and just fave. Usually, when an artist does that, they're very proud of the piece and would like some feedback on it. It doesn't take that long to write a simple comment about what you like. D: Especially when not every artist asks for it, hah hah. The only reason for them NOT to do it is if they don't read Artist Comments. Which is a whole different problem in general. xDDD

Oh well, that's my perfect world THAT WILL NEVER BEEEskghksjgh

Thank you! :D

I so agree with you...it seems like we've become the bad guy for asking for a simple commentO.o when I started asking in my artist comment thing for people to comment before faving all my friends got on me about how I shouldn't do that...like it was a sin or something...I just can't understand why people make it out like its a bad thing to ask that...this is a art site and I doubt when they first made it that they wanted people to just fav and run>_> the sad part is even when you ask them to comment before faving, most people still just fav and run>_< that so drivings me crazy...I sometimes feel like just going to their profile and asking "Thanks but....what did you actually like about my art?!" lol, I doubt I'd ever really do it but about every time someone does fav and doesn't comment that's the first thing that pops in my head^^;

I think that DA should do like MangaBullet and have a option where you have to comment before you can fav the artXD lol, I love that option and I use it all the time on that site....but really I do think DA should make that option cause its the only way I think these people on here will get a hint-_-;

I agree with you 100%. I personally always try to comment before I fav but I am guilty of saying the cliche "Awesome work on the new image" if I can't think of anything better to say.

Personally I find it annoying whenever people have an anti "comment before a favourite" stamp/attitude. No offence to them but personally I prefer to know what they liked about it. A fav is nice and all but I find comments more helpful. I'm a new artist and view comments as the best way to get better. People see what I've done wrong and flag them for me to come back to in the future. With this in mind, how does a fav and run help me improve? In fact I'd rather the person told me their opinion and didn't fav than a fav and run. A fav is still great, but I just like to know what people liked about the image.
