WHEW DOGGEHS. This took a long time to finish. Should it have? No. But that's what Photoshop does on my computer... Takes a long time. That's why I don't attempt full bodies. >_>;

Anyways, this is my character, Kiolani. (No real last name chosen at the moment.) Though throughout the story he stars in, he is mostly completely known by his alias, Tern. Tern is the uber smextastic father of Wren ( [link] ), and one of my favorite character designs to date. While working on this, I got insanely inspired to write the story he's features in... Though I don't think I will just yet. xD I'm a little intimidated in that sense. I'm not a writer in the sense of... Writing multiple chapters kind of writer. I'm really good at writing short stories. e_e But I had the best idea for an ending that may make it so it doesn't end all happy-angsty like I first thought. xDDDD (I love bittersweet endings. LAWL.) Darn you, Teeeeern.

Anyways, before anyone asks about the clothes, and whether or not there seems to be some similar style (look at Kade and a bit of Adrian)... Yes. Yes there is. >_>... <_<... There's a reason for that. But I can't reveal much. xDDD It's gonna be really hard to type Tern's bio without spoiling poop loads of what happens. x_x... I'll just keep the big stuff out. xD

P.S.: The story is called Centennial. Nice, short, one word title. Self explanatory. I'M KEEPING IT. xDDD

Name: Kiolani. (I'll get a last name... Sometime.)
Alias: Tern. (This is practically his name in the story. Let's just say his own son doesn't know his REAL name until like... Way later. xD
Name Meaning: Kiolani is a name I took from the female Hawaiian name Kailani, meaning "the sea and the sky," and turned it a bit more masculine. Also in ancient Hawaii, names were generally unisex, and since Tern's ethnicity is based off Hawaiians, I kept to that rule. A tern is a species of seabird. Once you connect the dots, you'll see why I chose a name meaning "the sea and the sky."
Age: Not 100% myself. But most likely in his early to mid thirties. (You can see the age creeping in around his lips and eyes. xD)
Haircolor: Brown-black. Pretty much, if you keep it base colors, it's black. But if you add highlights, it has a sort of brown color, perhaps hinting that it's very dark brown?
Eye Color: A sort of gray-brown. More gray than brown, though.
Ethnicity: Heavily heavily HEAV-IL-Y inspired off a Pacific Islander. I doubt in his world they're called that though. xDDD
Species: HOMO SAPIENS SAPIENS. O____O... Aka a human. xDDDD
Occupation: Always remember to pillage BEFORE you burn!
Alliance: Neutral.
Weapon: Cutlass and pistol.
Quote: "Don't steal him from me, Illarion... He's the only family I have left."
Notable Features:
- His hair is half done in dreadlocks (upper half) while the other half isn't (lower half, the underhair.) It's pulled into a ponytail, with one of the dreadlocks wrapping around the base, almost like a hairtie. There is both dreadlocks, and regular, loose locks of hair, in the ponytail. Some of the dreads are pulled into half buns. (You can kinda see it here.)
- Two pincer-style earrings in earlobes, one in each ear.
- Tribal tattoo on chest.
- A bit of scraggly facial hair on chin. (Not tons.)
- Very dark lining eyes. Almost looks like eyeliner.
- Finely built body.
- Reddish tanned skin, typical to pacific islanders.
- Eyes rather thin and slanted.
History: (Prepare for a heckuv a lot to be left out. xD But because Tern's in more of the minor character list, I'm going to describe the less... Givie... Awayie stuff.)
Tern was born, on a remote island, unknown to the world for many years. Living peacefully, Tern, then known as Kiolani, lived his life as a fisherman's son, learning to navigate the sea, catch the best fish, and learn to read the danger signs the waters gave. Kiolani grew into a hearty, robust boy, full of spunk and vigor, his talent for navigating the sea, growing more and more, each year that passed. For most of his young life, all he knew was the seasalt air, the wind, the waters, and the rocking boat beneath his feet, and he wouldn't have it any other way. However, his life of simplicity was shattered, by the roar of an unknown mechanism sending fire their way. Destroyed ports, villages, people, family... And it was so long paradise for Kiolani...

Kiolani had assembled a small crew, and with how small it was, some may have called it madness that he attempt to navigate a vessel as large as this. They were nameless, but nevertheless a unique, and perhaps a bit over-the-edge band of hooligans set to the waters, to uncharted territory, and lands unknown. Kiolani had many more years to live. Why not live it on the edge?

She had been pregnant, and then she had been lost during childbirth. The crew had beginning to doubt the once impenetrable Kiolani, as he held his newborn child in father's arms. Small, delicate, vulnerable, sickly... Much like his mother had been during the ordeal, before her body gave out. A sacrifice only a mother could understand... But it didn't matter. His beautiful songbird, his beautiful Robin, was gone. All he had left now was the small, delicate, vulnerable little child in his arms. Small and vulnerable. Like a wren.

Five years passed, and Tern was beginning to doubt having a child on board. He had doubted it a long time ago, really. Is this really what he wanted for his son? Wouldn't Wren be better elsewhere? With a normal family, on normal, solid ground, with a normal pet dog and pet cat? What sort of example was HE setting for Wren? Albatross was the only loyal one to him any longer, and he had spoken of gossip among the Birds of Paradise's crew, down talking the captain's judgment. That was it. No more. It was time to get someone else to look after the boy. He needed to separate.

He couldn't have had better luck if he asked for it. A wandering scholar that the world rejected, was to be accepted into a crew of the world's rejects. His only desire was to teach those who needed to be taught, and he'd do it, just for a chance to prove himself. He could look after Wren. He could watch over the boy. He could teach the boy things to help him lead a better life later on. He could... Take the boy away from him...

There was nothing but sand, and pristine oceans all around them. Foliage, coconuts, more foliage, more sand, water... Wind, seasalt air, just like the old days... Well, with the addition of one little person beside him.

"Get up, Wren." He'd order, and the boy would do so, very quickly. Was the boy really that afraid of him? Had he neglected him for so long?

"Go into the forest and take a look around. There's sure to be some better shelter around here... I'll keep watch, just in case I see any ships pass by."

And as the boy disappeared into the dense, leafy vegetation, he could only imagine what was to come next...
Personality: Tern is highly egotistical, usually thinking greatly of himself. Boisterous, loud, rash, quick-thinking, many times careless, it was hard to believe he had the gentleness of a lamb beneath that vigor of a lion. Tern is deeply caring, though doesn't know very well how to show it, and so, usually shrugs anything deeply emotional off his shoulders.
